HOUSTON, December 15, 2021 — S&B Engineers and Constructors (S&B) was awarded an engineering and construction contract to engineer, procure and build Chevron Phillips Chemical’s new C3 splitter unit. Located at the company’s Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown, Texas, the new unit has an expected capacity of 1 billion lbs./year. Construction is set to begin in January 2022.

The C3 splitter will convert a refinery-grade mixture of propylene and propane into a high purity propylene product, a key building block for many household and industrial applications.At its peak, S&B anticipates the project will create 350-plus construction jobs, with project startup slated for 2023.
